چکیده

We directly determine the sensitivity and time delay of Earth’s surface temperature response to annual solar irradiance variations from 60 years of data. A two-layer energy balance model is developed to interpret the results. Explaining both the resulting low sensitivity and time delay of 1–2 months requires negative feedback.  2004 Elsevier B.V. Solar Irradiance since 1874 Revisited

We reconstruct the solar irradiance since 1874 employing an evolved version of previously published models and improved sunspot and facular data. A good correlation between reconstructed irradiance and Earth’s global air temperature on time scales longer than the solar cycle is obtained and, in contrast to many earlier models, solar irradiance does not on average lag behind global temperature p...

Towards a better representation of the solar cycle in general circulation models

We introduce the improved Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) high-resolution radiation scheme FUBRad and compare it to the 4-band standard ECHAM5 SW radiation scheme of Fouquart and Bonnel (FB). Both schemes are validated against the detailed radiative transfer model libRadtran. FUBRad produces realistic heating rate variations during the solar cycle. The SW heating rate response with the FB scheme...

Empirical evidences for a planetary modulation of total solar irradiance and the TSI signature of the 1.09-year Earth- Jupiter conjunction cycle

The time series of total solar irradiance (TSI) satellite observations since 1978 provided by ACRIM and PMOD TSI composites are studied. We find empirical evidence for planetary-induced forcing and modulation of solar activity. Power spectra and direct data pattern analysis reveal a clear signature of the 1.09-year Earth-Jupiter conjunction cycle, in particular during solar cycle 23 maximum. Th...

Developing off-design model of Yazd integrated solar combined cycle for analyzing environmental benefits of using solar energy instead of supplementary firing

An integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) is analyzed at "off-design" operating conditions. Using the principles of thermodynamics heat and mass transfer a computer code is developed in FORTRAN programming language to simulate the system’s hourly performance under steady state conditions. Three scenarios are considered for the study. In the first one, only the combined cycle (CC) is studied. In...

A Wavelet Analysis of Solar Climate Forcing: I) Solar Cycle Timescales

We use the technique of wavelet analysis to quantitatively investigate the role of solar variability in forcing terrestrial climate change on solar cycle timescales (roughly 11 years). We examine the connection between mean annual solar irradiance, as reconstructed from sunspot and isotope records, and the climate, as proxied by two Northern Hemisphere surface air temperature reconstructions. B...
